Former first lady Michelle Obama is still mocking Melania Trump for giving Obama a gift during President Donald Trump’s 2017 presidential inauguration.
Somehow Obama appears to have forgotten about the gift she presented the outgoing first lady during Barack Obama’s 2009 inauguration.
Michelle Obama joined host Jimmy Fallon on “The Tonight Show” on Tuesday to yet again express her confusion over the current first lady’s Inauguration Day gift-giving.
Since many leftists will mock the Trumps for anything imaginable, many took aim at Melania Trump when she gave Obama a Tiffany & Co. box. They made jokes about what was inside, saying that no one knew what to do with the gift and trashed her for even putting Obama in a situation like that.
Obama has taken this liberal glee and jumped on the Melania-trashing bandwagon.
Fallon asked Obama what she was feeling during the inauguration. Apparently, not common courtesy.
When Fallon showed Obama a picture of her and former President Barack Obama waving goodbye on inauguration day, he asked what was going through her head.
“A lot was going on that day … that was a day,” she said as if it were too aggravating to even think about.
Obama then shared a story of how her daughters wanted to have a sleepover the night before. “So there was that, and the Tiffany’s box … it was just a lot,” Obama said.
Somehow this isn’t the first time she’s made fun of the first lady for the gift. She appeared on “Ellen” earlier this year and told her that she didn’t know how to respond to the gesture, CNN reported. Thankfully, former President Barack Obama “saved the day.”
Instead of receiving the gift with respect, Obama looked blatantly annoyed when Trump gave it to her.
To be fair, Obama has openly admitted that she “stopped even trying to smile” on Inauguration Day as her husband passed the presidency to Trump.
But bringing it up almost two years later is just downright petty — definitely not the kind of gossipy mean-girls behavior you’d hope for from a former first lady.
“I mean, this is like a state visit, so they tell you that you’re going to do this, they’re going to stand here. Never before do you get this gift, so I’m sort of like OK … What am I supposed to do with this gift?” Obama told host Ellen DeGeneres.
“No one would come and take the box,” she said, “And I’m thinking, ‘Do we take the picture with (it)?'”
The logistics of gift-giving and picture-taking was less confusing for her in 2009, when she presented outgoing first lady Laura Bush with a gift in the same situation during Obama’s inauguration.
.@KateBennett_DC‘s newsletter points out Michelle Obama’s continued issue with Melania Trump bringing her a gift on Inauguration Day. Michelle said it was awkward because it wasn’t protocol. Unlike Obama, however, Bush took the gift graciously. It may seem crazy, but somehow she had the decency to restrain from mocking the friendly gesture, even years later.
Either Obama’s not aware of her own actions, or she’s just betting that the liberal media won’t call her out for it. Whatever the case, it seems a little petty and hypocritical.
