On April 8, 2018, Lauren Crunk found herself running the Statesman Capitol 10,000, Texas’ largest 10K. Her boyfriend, Daniel Chavez, was supposed to run with her, but told her he was injured and bowed out at the last second.
Lauren still had a few girlfriends to run with, and Daniel promised to cheer her on from the sidelines.
She also participated in the same race the year before, and Daniel, who she’d just met, cheered her on from the sidelines.
During that race, she found him in the crowd holding up a sign asking her out on their first date that read, “Go Lauren! Run now, drinks later?”
This year, he wanted to do it again. Only this time, Daniel had a different question to ask.
Lauren and her friends soon approached an intersection during the race and spotted Daniel standing on the side of the road.
As the runners came closer, he held up a sign backwards so that Lauren wouldn’t see it until she was right in front of him.
At first, she was confused by the blank sign, asking “What does the sign say?” But when Daniel finally flipped it over, she couldn’t believe what she was reading.
“Go Lauren!!! Run now, marry me later?” the sign said.
Immediately pausing in disbelief, Lauren paced back and forth and said “Are you kidding me?”
Soon the crowd around the couple began to cheer as Daniel got down on one knee to formally propose.
Lauren immediately accepted as she began to cry.
After taking photos together, the couple and their friends left the race then and there to start celebrating.
