Taking a page out of Donald Trump’s playbook, Republican vice-presidential running mate, Mike Pence announced Thursday he would not be endorsing two Republican incumbents, New Hampshire Senator Kelly Ayotte and Arizona Senator John McCain in their bid for re-election to the Senate.
Speaking with reporters, Pence said he and Trump were looking forward to endorsing Republican candidates throughout the United States. He added a caveat, saying, “But the stakes in this election are so high. To restore our country and home and abroad, we need new leadership, and I’m looking forward to standing should to shoulder with Donald Trump to drive that new leadership forward.”
Trump has also declined to endorse McCain.

Pence chose a different path than Trump, however, in his decision to endorse House Speaker Paul Ryan.
Trump announced earlier this week that he would not give his endorsement to Ryan, saying, “I’m just not quite there yet.”
Pence went on to say he and Trump see “eye to eye” on such issues as Russia’s involvement in the hacking of the Democratic National Committee email servers and the proposition of a temporary stem of Muslim immigrants, particularly from war-torn countries.

Pence also remarked about the controversy surrounding Khizr Khan. “Donald Trump and I both said that Captain Khan is an American hero and his family, like every Gold Star family, should be cherished, and by every American,” he said.
Prior to Trump’s announcement, Pence had scheduled a visit to Arizona to meet with McCain and discuss various issues. The town hall meeting, which took place in Tuscon was thought to be an effort by Pence to restore the bonds of unity within the Republican Party.
