AL MVP Altuve sets record with 10 hits in 10 consecutive at-bats
Houston Astros second baseman Jose Altuve is red hot.
Over the course of the last three games, Altuve had hits in 10 consecutive at-bats.
The streak started last Friday with a double in the eighth inning of an 11-2 win over the Indians. He doubled again in the ninth inning of that Friday win.

On Saturday in an 8-6 loss to the Indians, Altuve went 4-for-4 to extend the hit streak to six. One of those hits was a home run.

Then, on Sunday, Altuve, batting third in the lineup, singled to center to make it seven straight. In the fourth, he legged out an infield single to make it eight.
On to the sixth inning, when Altuve hit a double to deep right field to make it nine straight hits, breaking the team record that he set last June 23-24.
Now he was starting to get into MLB record territory. The all-time mark is held by the Tigers’ Walt Dropo, who had 12 consecutive hits in July 1952.
In the eight inning, Altuve drilled an RBI single to left to make it 10 straight hits and tie the game at 3.
On to the top of the ninth. Altuve ripped a line drive into to gap in left center. It took a sliding catch by Cleveland center fielder Raja Davis to finally get Altuve out and snap the hit streak.

Cleveland went on to win the game 10-9 in 10 innings. Altuve finished 4-for-6.
“You don’t think about hits, you’re not counting hits — you’re trying to win games,” Altuve said, reported MLB.com. “I guess after two games, my teammates say, ‘Oh, you got 10 hits.’ You’re like, ‘OK, that’s fun.’ But in the middle of the game it’s hard to think about, ‘Oh I got 1, 2, 3, 4 …”
During the streak, Altuve raised his batting average 24 points from .306 on Thursday to .330 after Sunday’s game.
“He’s the MVP of the league; it’s not a surprise,” Astros manager A.J. Hinch said. “He does have a way of putting the barrel on the ball. When he’s hot like this, there’s not a guy in the league that can get him out.”
