Mom's Huge Pregnant Belly Gains Her Internet Fame, Now Her Babies Are Here

Share

In many cases, couples who are pregnant expect to add one kid at a time — maybe two, if they have a history of twins in their family. It’s very rare to naturally have triplets.

But that’s what one couple from Copenhagen experienced. When 36-year-old Maria found out they were about to double the headcount in their family, she shared the news on Instagram.

“There are THREE!” she wrote, with a photo of her teary self. “Me in the car back home from the hospital, an hour after receiving the big news. We had our first ultrasound at exactly 13 weeks, and got the biggest surprise of our life.”

“Total shock. And three perfectly shaped babies.”

Thus began her chronicling of the ups and downs of pregnancy. She was honest with her experiences, documenting the many not-so-pleasant moments along the way.

The brave mom shared about her hospital visits, how quickly she could go from feeling great to feeling miserable, stretch marks, rashes and other unexpected complications.

The babies were delivered by C-section on Sept. 12, and all three babies were healthy, weighing in between 4 and 5 pounds apiece. They were fed through tubes for a time, to make sure that they gained weight normally.

Today the triplets are one month old! ❤️❤️❤️ Agnes and Filip pulled out their own feeding tubes for the last time two days ago and Iben will lose her’s on Monday, which is the triplets’ due date. They are all gaining weight and growing – Filip and Agnes are both close to 3 kg! ?? ⠀ ⠀ There is no longer a fixed schedule for changing and feeding. Now they get their food when they ask for it, which makes everything a bit more chaotic, but also more flexible, which is nice. It also gives more time for cuddling with our cutiepies. ? ⠀ ⠀ Outfits knitted by my sweet friend Tonje ❤️ (Knitting patterns from @petiteknit) ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ #triplets #trillinger #1monthold

Things after birth haven’t been entirely peachy, but once again Maria has been very open about the process her body is going through as it recovers.

“?Vent warning?,” she posted three days after her C-section. “What a woman needs to go through! ? Day 4 and it has been quite a ride body wise.”

#postpartumbody ⠀ 4 weeks after the birth of my triplets. ?????? ⠀ I still have a weird looking hanging belly, and I am a bit surprised it has not gotten smaller since my last picture three weeks ago. Kind of disappointing I must admit, and I am not too happy to share this picture. On the positive side the c-section scar doesn’t hurt anymore, and in the last two days I’ve almost felt like myself again! Except for this heavy sagging belly that is. ? I’ve been waiting for some belly bands that were shipped from the US several weeks ago, and they will finally arrive tomorrow. Can’t wait to try them on and see if they have any effect! ⠀ ⠀ #triplets #postpartum #impatient

“The first two days I could barely stand up because of extreme pain in the c-section wound, but the nurses made me walk a bit anyway. If I didn’t, it would become even worse, they told me. ?

“In addition to that it has been three days with my bowels constantly twisting and turning like snakes (you wont believe the sight of it!), causing much pain. And to top it off my milk started coming in already yesterday, and has caused huge and very painful breast engorgement.

“My nurse actually asked if I have implants! The joke of the day. ? BUT, our babies are doing SO good!! ?Will write a post about them soon. ❤️”

After just over a week in the NICU, the babies were able to go home. Iben, Agnes and Filip joined their brother Mikael and their parents.

Maria posted another photo at the 40-week mark. That would have been her due date — but when you see the photo, it’s clear those babies couldn’t have stayed in there that long!

She continues to keep her account updated with photos of the triplets as they develop and information about how she’s doing. She certainly has her hands full — and then some — but she has a great attitude and her honesty is refreshing.
