Even visitors to the left-leaning MoveOn.org are fed up with the position New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio has taken in the largely anti-police movement that has spread throughout his city in recent weeks.
Following the murder of two NYPD officers this past weekend, a petition calling for the mayor’s ouster was published on MoveOn and, as of this writing, has amassed more than 63,000 signatures. With a goal of 75,000 signatures set, the petition asserts that de Blasio must be held accountable for his “actions and words” in the weeks leading up to the police shootings.
“With the recent news surrounding the NYPD and other law enforcement agencies around the country,” the petition reads, “our mayor blasted his own police department by throwing them under the bus. His words and actions on the subject matter of late have to be held accountable. He is unfit to lead this city. He is unfit to have a relationship with his police department for his remaining tenure and he should be taken out of office IMMEDIATELY, with proper protocol to be followed to name a replacement before a special election.”

I agree with the @MoveOn petition. DeBlasio should step down. He has no business presiding over the NYPD.

In the days since officers Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu were killed, de Blasio has faced criticism from members of the NYPD, former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, and former NYPD Commissioner Bernard Kerik.
