Music Superstar Kenny Chesney Just Flew 138 Dogs & Puppies Over 1K Miles for Incredible Reason

After the devastating 2017 Atlantic hurricane season, countless people were left to pick up the pieces of the lives and their homes — if there were any pieces left.

Country music superstar Kenny Chesney was among them, as his second home in St. John, U.S. Virgin Islands, was destroyed during hurricane Irma.

A frequent visitor of the U.S. and British Virgin Islands for over 20 years, Chesney knew he needed to help those who’d given him so much over the years.

In Sept. 2017, the singer established the charity Love for Love City as a way to find and provide resources to rebuild for those who lost everything in Irma and the following hurricane Maria.

“Getting supplies in is hard. Finding places for workers to stay is even harder now that Hurricane Maria has done so much damage to St. Croix,” Chesney said in a 2017 press release.

“Because it’s so hard to get even the basic supplies in, let alone the news media, people really aren’t seeing how devastating these hurricanes have been.”

But Chesney was dedicated to personally lending a hand, sending food, money, medical supplies, generators, and more to those affected.

“It’s just simply gone,” Chesney said. “That place and the people mean so much more to me than my house … it’s just devastation. It’s really odd to see such a beautiful place look like a war zone.”

Now, he’s done it again. Continuing the efforts of Love for Love City, Chesney has made the rescue of 138 dogs and cats from St. Thomas and St. John shelters possible.

Most of the animals were former pets of residents affected by the hurricanes.

The cats and dogs arrived on Feb. 27 to Palm Beach International airport, where they were met by members from Big Dog Ranch Rescue and Halo Rescue. Chesney paid for the plane’s fuel.

The animals were then taken to get medical treatment. Soon, they’ll all be up for adoption and ready to find their forever homes.

Big Dog Ranch Rescue took to Facebook to share the news and thank Chesney for his kind and giving heart:

“Thank you Kenney Chesney, Jill and everyone at Love for Love City for caring about these precious dogs and puppies. Many will be ready for loving homes at Big Dog Ranch Rescue.”
