NFL wife pleads with courts to drop the hammer on her husband

Share

The domestic violence case of former NFL defensive tackle Roy Miller has taken another ugly turn.

Miller was with the Kansas City Chiefs last November when he was arrested and charged with domestic battery.

An officer who arrived at his home in Jacksonville, Florida, early Nov. 12 reported that Miller’s wife, Nicole, had a cut on her face, a scratch on her neck and a braid torn out from the back of her head.

She told police they had gone on a date to the Jacksonville Zoo in the evening of Nov. 11 and Miller had left her there. When they both got home, the couple, both of whom had been drinking alcohol, had an argument that turned physical, according to police. Nicole Miller said her husband grabbed her hair and shoved her. He also threw her cellphone in the toilet and physically restrained her from retrieving it, she said.

The 30-year-old Miller was released by the Chiefs a day after his arrest.

In March, Nicole Miller, 39, filed for divorce from her husband and sought a restraining order against him.

She told the court that not only had Miller attacked her in front of one of their children, but he also was draining the family’s bank account to keep her from getting her share of their money in the divorce, according to TMZ Sports. Nicole Miller said her husband had withdrawn more than $400,000.

In addition, she said Miller has a drinking problem that has “impaired his ability to parent,” TMZ reported.

Roy Miller denied his wife’s allegations in court papers and in a statement on Instagram.

According to a TMZ report Monday, prosecutors reached an agreement with Miller: He would plead not guilty to the misdemeanor battery charge and enter a pretrial diversion program in which he would perform community service, attend an anger management class and pay a fine.

Nicole Miller, however, believes that punishment is far too light, and she has asked the judge to cancel the deal, TMZ reported.

In her court filing, she said she feared for her life in the November incident.

“My husband tackled me as if I was a 320 pound man on the football field,” Nicole Miller said. “I weigh 135 lbs, the weight of him crushing me and the impact of the blows to the back of my neck and him yanking my head side to side by my braids, was very painful and shocking all at once.

“I thought I was going to die and worst of all in front of my children.”

She said she wanted to be able to tell her story in court so that her husband will receive a stiffer sentence, according to TMZ.

A ruling is expected “in the near future,” the report said.

Roy Miller was drafted by Tampa Bay in 2009 out of the University of Texas. He spent four years with the Buccaneers and another four with the Jaguars before joining the Chiefs last year. In his nine-year career, Miller has 170 tackles and eight sacks.
