Disgraceful: Ocasio-Cortez 'Kids Around' with Old Friends Put Out of Work by Her Policies [Opinion]

It can be shocking to the senses to try to reconcile the disconnect between the socialist mindset and reality. What is even more shocking is that anyone running for office in the United States of America can be so opposed the value of economics in a capitalistic society in favor of socialist policy.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez continues to stupefy as she publicly shines a light on another example of her inability to understand unemployment and business.

The self proclaimed democratic socialist, who is running for congress in New York’s 14th district, has made statements about unemployment that might shock anyone who is only moderately paying attention to the economy.

The Daily Caller published one of her most embarrassing interviews relating to her knowledge of workforce indicators.

When asked if she thought capitalism has failed to deliver for working-class Americans with unemployment at roughly 4 percent, she responded: “Well, I think the numbers you just talked about is part of the problem, right? We look at these figures and we say, ‘Oh, unemployment is low, everything is fine, right?’”

But Daily Caller pointed out that there is a difference between unemployment and underemployment, a fact which Ocasio-Cortez seems to confuse.

Is Ocasio-Cortez wrong in her stance on minimum wage?

“Unemployment is low because everyone has two jobs. Unemployment is low because people are working 60, 70, 80 hours a week and can barely feed their family,” she said.

On July 17, Ocasio-Cortez sent out a tweet supporting a higher minimum wage.

“Raising the Federal minimum wage to a living wage, and supporting a revitalized, 21st century labor movement are two essential starting points for working class Americans getting the dignified pay they deserve. Healthcare, education, and housing are key cornerstones, too.”

Ocasio-Cortez is a proponent of higher minimum wages as you might guess from previous comments. However, when a favorite coffee shop in New York closed down because of crushing overhead, including higher minimum wage salaries, you may wonder if she is connecting the dots between her own supported policies and the economic failures they are causing.

The restaurant in question was the coffee shop featured in the “Sex and the City” television series and was open for nearly 28 years, as reported by Fox News.

“Co-owner and President Charles Milite announced the decision to shut the doors to its 150 employees last month.”

Fox also points out that it wasn’t due to retirement or greed that the restaurant shut down. It was oppressive government regulations that made it impossible to keep the doors open.

“The times have changed in our industry. The rents are very high and now the minimum wage is going up and we have a huge number of employees,” said Milite.

Maybe Ocasio-Cortez could open up a GoFundMe for all the businesses that might fall due to overreaching regulations and higher mandated salaries. After all, isn’t that the socialist thing to do?
