Ocasio-Cortez Lambasted After Posting Most Ignorant Tweet We Have Ever Seen

Share

For a woman who has quickly become the face of the new Democrats, New York congressional candidate Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is either shockingly uninformed or profoundly gaffe-prone.

There’s no other explanation for the run of unforced errors she’s experienced in recent weeks. First was her PBS interview with Margaret Hoover on “Firing Line.” Okay, so you could excuse that whole uncomfortable affair as her first foray onto a program where the host wasn’t uncritically in favor for her. Then there was the video for Kansas congressional candidate Brent Welder where she vouchsafed that the Democrats would “flip this seat red.” Well, all right, we all have our moments.

But what about her interview on “The Daily Show,” where, amid plenty of obsequious questions, host Trevor Noah made the error of asking the self-described democratic socialist where she was going to get the money to pay for the largesse she proposes? Whoops.

If you’re still in denial and believe that these three incidents are merely the missteps of a young political candidate finding her sea legs after being thrown into the foaming waters of American politics, perhaps you ought to consider something she tweeted last week.

The post was made in response to the news that Republican Rep. Jim Jordan of Ohio, founder of the House Freedom Caucus, is running against California Rep. Kevin McCarthy to replace the retiring Paul Ryan as the speaker of the House.

Here was Ocasio-Cortez’s brilliant rejoinder to that.

Well, where to start here? From the beginning seems like a good place, since GDP growth is above 4 percent last quarter, unemployment is under 4 percent, the economy is booming and trade balance has been a major agenda issue under this president, something that it clearly wasn’t for the eight years of the Obama administration. All of that is good for “working class Americans.”

Do you think Ocasio-Cortez will win in November?

As for being weak on crime, I don’t know whether this is a sick joke or Ocasio-Cortez actually believes this. She is, after all, one of the shrillest voices in the “abolish ICE” movement, which states that one of the chief law enforcement agencies effectuating immigration law is not merely superfluous but racist. When it comes to enforcing drug laws or standing up for police officers — they’re the ones who fight crime, remember? — the Republican Party is demonstrably tougher than the Democrats. This isn’t even a matter of debate; there’s literally no effective way to make this argument on the Democrat side.

Okay, so what about equal rights? I suppose if you follow the Democrats’ strategy of working toward equal outcome, then yes, this is the case. However, given that this is the administration that’s ended the Obama administration’s Department of Education-imposed racial discrimination plans by colleges and universities — which discriminated disproportionately against Asian-Americans — one could easily make a case in the other direction.

National security? Please don’t make me laugh. The Democrats have fought the wall, fought to maintain the Iran deal, fought for the rights of those who are illegally in this country. They simply don’t believe national security is important — unless, of course, it involves Russia, then they’re all about it so long as it doesn’t involve President Trump’s actual record in regards to Vladimir Putin.

Then we have weakness on rejecting racism. Again, this is mostly a matter of perspective. We could point out racism in both parties — usually more explicit on the fringes — but it’s also worth noting that the Democrats’ belief is that anything that doesn’t fit their cultural agenda is automatically racist. So yes, by Ocasio-Cortez’s standards, this is true. Most of America probably isn’t going to agree.

Weak on moral courage? This is coming from the member of a party where the party chairman told the caucus last year that anyone who had the moral courage to be pro-life didn’t belong in the party. He later backed off this, proving he didn’t even have the moral courage to follow through with his attack on moral courage. Meanwhile, the Trump administration has made restocking the judiciary a chief priority, making sure to pick judges with a dedication to following the Constitution as its written — a campaign promise that’s going to pay off for years, including on the nation’s top court.

Family values? I reiterate, this is the party of abortion. The party of marijuana legalization. The party that openly attacked the very concept of “family values” back in the early 1990s. I’m not quite sure what Ocasio-Cortez is trying to do here, unless it’s to couch her abolish ICE argument in the language of family values or self-sabotage.

This is all astonishingly ignorant — and, it’s worth noting, makes no concrete points about Jordan’s record aside from trying to tie him to these vague points that don’t actually make any sense. It’s become literally impossible to take Ocasio-Cortez seriously anymore, given the ridiculousness of the things that come out of her mouth off of her fingers.

Bluntly put, if this is the new face of the Democrats, the Republicans are going to have an easy time of it for years to come.
