In yet another case of the free exercise of the Second Amendment, an off-duty Detroit security guard used his weapon to defend himself from four attackers, one of whom allegedly hit the man in the head with a baton.
The shooting took place early Thursday morning on Detroit’s West side at the corner of Livernois and Seven Mile.
Police say they had been investigating an earlier incident at 1:30 a.m., wherein a group of young men in a gray minivan approached a 46-year-old female pedestrian and robbed her of purse, phone and baton.

Around 2 a.m., convenience store owner Shaialanrir Alzokari said four men entered his store asking for gas money, but left finding no one willing to part with any spare change.
The men, supposedly, then crossed the street from the convenience store and accosted an off-duty security guard who was walking home from work. According to the unidentified victim, the men hit him over the head with a baton. Presumably fearing for his life, the man took out his legally registered handgun and began shooting at the attackers.
Alzokari said he initially heard three shots, but then he heard about a dozen more. One of the attackers, a 21-year-old, was hit by the hail of bullets unleashed by the concealed carry licensed security guard. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he is reportedly in serious condition.

Reporter Robin Murdoch, who covered the story for Detroit’s WJBK-TV, said police are investigating whether the incident with the first female victim and the security guard are related, and whether or not other crimes can be connected with the group.
Presently, three suspects are on the run and have not yet been identified. All four men are said to be in their 20s.
