Perverted: Liberal Pastor Melts Down Girls' Purity Rings To Create Highly Offensive Sculpture

Share

What would you do if your pastor melted down symbols of sexual purity, had the metal cast into the shape of a reproductive organ and then presented the whole ensemble to Gloria Steinem?

If you were a fan of Nadia Bolz-Weber, you’d likely be cheering.

Bolz-Weber is a liberal Lutheran pastor who founded Colorado’s House for All Sinners and Saints, The Christian Post reported. And that question earlier wasn’t hyperbole — she actually did present a statue made from promise rings, modeled after a certain part of the female anatomy, to rabid feminist Gloria Steinem.

Yes, the same Gloria Steinem who once called religion the “biggest problem” for feminism.

A video of Bolz-Weber explaining the project can be seen below.

The pastor originally announced the vulgar project at a 2018 conference as a way to “take down” the church’s traditional teachings about sex. Many of these teachings, by the way, are what Jesus Christ preached.

Despite this, Bolz-Weber called followers to submit their purity rings. She promised a copy of her book in return.

Hundreds came pouring in.

The rings were then melted down and a female welder (Bolz-Weber said she approached several males, all of whom rejected her commission) turned the scraps into a sculpture.

The rings that couldn’t be melted were formed into one word: “freedom.”

But freedom from what?

Bolz-Weber is obviously no fan of the so-called purity movement that swept mainstream Christianity in the early 2000s, in which believers pledged to save sex for marriage. Speaking to HuffPost, she linked the movement to an insidious church hierarchy supposedly hellbent on subjugating women.

“This thing about women that the church has tried to hide and control and that is a canvas on which other people can write their own righteousness ― it’s actually ours,” Bolz-Weber said.

To the pastor’s credit, the purity movement didn’t get it exactly right. Unfortunately for her, this is not because it was too restrictive, but because it didn’t go far enough.

As Jesus said during His Sermon on the Mount, “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery’; but I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.” (Matthew 5:27-28)

To us humans racked with sin this may seem like a high standard, but Jesus makes it clear exactly what God’s expectations are for us.

Purity can’t be protected by wearing a ring, and adultery doesn’t happen solely behind closed doors. “Freedom” from this reality only makes you a bigger slave to sin.
