Prince Louis' Official Christening Portraits Released and They're Too Cute To Handle

Share

In April 2018, the newest member of the royal family made his ultra-charming debut. And now, the world is swooning over some of the most adorable christening photos ever.

Recently unveiled, these official images of wee Prince Louis were taken at Clarence House, in the Morning Room.

This particular location is significant because it’s the London residence of grandfather Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall. In all, four stunning portraits were released for public viewing.

The tiny prince’s smiling family is seated on a well-appointed sofa, which is part of a larger suite of furniture by Thomas Chippendale. It dates back to roughly 1773, and it’s believed to have been commissioned by the Duke of Gloucester, sibling to George III.

The first photo features the entire family group. You can see Prince William and his wife Kate, plus all three of their children. Also included are Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, both sets of beaming grandparents, plus Pippa Middleton and her husband, James Matthews.

The second photo showcases the royal family members exclusively.

The third photo highlights Prince William’s lovely new family of five; and Kate smiles tenderly over her brand new bundle of joy in the fourth and final photo.

Prince Louis’ elated parents selected Matt Holyoak to create these official images. He’s known as one of the world’s foremost portrait photographers.

In fact, according to The Mirror, Holyoak was awarded the job thanks to some of his prior work with the royal family. William and Kate were reportedly quite impressed with his photograph of the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh, taken to commemorate the couple’s 70th wedding anniversary.

So perhaps it’s especially fitting that Queen Elizabeth herself is symbolically “watching over” her family in this latest collection of photos. Just to the right in the larger group portraits, you can see an oil-on-canvas rendering of the Queen.

This painting was created by Michael Noakes, circa 1972-1973. Unfortunately, the monarch’s hectic schedule prevented her and Prince Philip from being part of Prince Louis’ christening portraits in person.

All four of these latest photos were taken following the tiny prince’s baptism in the Chapel Royal, at St. James’ Palace.

In a statement, Holyoak noted that he was “truly honored” to witness this celebratory and historic event firsthand.

“Everyone was so relaxed and in such good spirits,” he said, “it was an absolute pleasure.”

Holyoak also added, “I only hope I have captured some of that joy in my photographs.”

From Princess Charlotte’s sweetly doting big sister pose, to the beaming smile displayed by a normally shy Prince George, Holyoak certainly seems to have succeeded. Enamored social media responses suggest absolute and overwhelming approval.
