Reba Takes the Stage for Powerful Duet, Then Fans Realize They'd Seen That Dress 25 Years Ago

Share

The last time Reba McEntire wore this dress, you were 25 years younger. The country legend decided to bring the classic gown back to the public eye for an unforgettable performance alongside her daughter-in-law, Kelly Clarkson.

On April 15, McEntire entertained the country as she hosted the 2018 ACM Awards. A highlight of the evening was when McEntire and Clarkson performed side by side for a rendition of the time-honored duet, “Does He Love You.”

Longtime fans of the 63-year-old were quick to realize they’d seen the singer wear the same glittering red gown decades ago — in 1993, to be exact. McEntire looked as stunning as ever in the deep red, floor-length gown that attracted all kinds of attention back in the ’90s.

“I got more press off that dress than if I’d won Entertainer of the Year,” McEntire has said about her history with what she calls “THE red dress.”

Fans were instantly taken back to their younger years, remembering that classic big hair of the early ’90s that completed McEntire’s wardrobe ensemble.

In 1993, McEntire performed her famous duet alongside artist Linda Davis at the CMA Awards. Sunday night, it was McEntire’s famous daughter-in-law, donned in a sparkling, long-sleeved black gown, who had the honor of performing the duet alongside the iconic entertainer.

Clarkson has been married to McEntire’s former stepson, Brandon Blackstock for almost five years. Since Clarkson rose to fame in 2002, she and McEntire have performed together a number of times.

“In 2008, we went on tour together — had a blast — toured Canada and the United States, and I’d love to do that anytime she wants to do that again,” an excited McEntire told PEOPLE before the anticipated event. “So getting back on stage with her is going to be a blast because she sings her butt off and she’s cute as a button.”

A respectful Clarkson tried to step out of the limelight at the song’s conclusion, in order that McEntire might receive the audience’s excited applause. But McEntire wasn’t about to take all the credit.

McEntire wanted Clarkson right by her side, taking her daughter-in-law’s hand in a gesture of familial love and respect. Smiling broadly side by side, the duo accepted the accolades of their fans together.

It’s no secret McEntire has always been a huge fan of Clarkson — both personally and professionally. “I’m in awe every time she sings,” McEntire said, praising Clarkson’s powerful vocal range.

“I think I’m her biggest fan!” the fiery redhead continued. “Maybe Brandon is, but I don’t know,” she joked.

Fans were over the moon over the side-by-side performance, including country star Luke Bryan, who was seen singing his little country boy heart out during the duet. Can’t say we blame him!
