If a positive verdict from Republican National Committee’s chairman Reince Priebus is any indication of how well the planned meeting went between presumed nominee Donald Trump and House Speaker Paul Ryan, then the meeting was a success for both wings of the Republican Party.
Priebus tweeted, “The meeting was great. It was a very positive step toward party unity.”

From early indicators, it seemed questionable whether the meeting would go well. Ryan had openly criticized Donald Trump’s choice of words and policy plans during the candidates campaign, and later said he was not yet ready to back Trump as the presumed nominee.
That reservation was followed up by a fiery response from Trump who fired back at Ryan in a tweet that he had not “inherited” the party, but “won” it with the help of millions of Republican votes. Coupled with Ryan’s comments that Trump had some “fence mending” to do, the meeting was set among rising tensions.

However, from all accounts coming in at this time, the meeting was a success between Trump, Ryan and Priebus. Trump then attended meeting with House Republicans and later met with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and other Senate Republicans.
A source reported the meeting with Ryan and Priebus was “very positive” and a “good step toward achieving party unity,” reported Fox News. The source would not confirm or deny whether or not Ryan would endorse Trump. For his part, Ryan projected a positive attitude at a press conference on Wednesday and added he wanted to be part of the unification process, as the party cannot go into the general election at “half-strength.”
