Saints Star Rips Roethlisberger: 'I'd Honestly Put Eli Before I Put Ben' in Hall of Fame

Share

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger has two Super Bowl rings and ranks in the top 10 all-time in both passing yards and passing touchdowns.

Yet even with that impressive resume, one NFL star is skeptical that Big Ben is a future Hall of Famer.

New Orleans Saints defensive end Cameron Jordan, whose team takes on Pittsburgh this Sunday, questioned the idea that Roethlisberger is headed for Canton.

In fact, Jordan was surprised that Roethlisberger would even be in the Hall of Fame discussion.

“Is that true?” Jordan responded when a reporter suggested that Roethlisberger might be a future Hall of Famer. Then he gave an exaggerated, “Reeeaaally?”

“In this era? You’d put him at like a top three of this era? You’d put him in the top five of this era?” Jordan continued, before listing Drew Brees, Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers and Peyton Manning as top quarterbacks during Roethlisberger’s era.

While few would argue that those four would eclipse Roethlisberger in a discussion of great quarterbacks, Jordan then brought up the other two prominent QBs from the 2004 draft class.

“You’re saying he’s better than Philip Rivers, career-wise? So you’re giving him the Super Bowl nod?” Jordan said. “You’re putting him at No. 5? OK. … I’d honestly put Eli (Manning) before I’d put Ben, but OK. Two Super Bowls — if we’re going by those numbers.”

While Rivers hasn’t made it to a Super Bowl, a strong case could be made that he is at least as good as Roethlisberger.

Do you think Eli Manning has had a better career than Ben Roethlisberger?

It’s when Jordan mentioned Eli Manning that people lost their marbles. Of Rivers, Roethlisberger and Manning, the New York Giants quarterback has the fewest touchdown passes and the most interceptions.

Manning also has the lowest passer rating and the worst record among the three — although he also can claim two Super Bowl MVP awards.

It’s clear that Jordan’s Twitter mentions blew up after the comment went viral, and he responded with a popcorn gif.

Jordan then attempted to clarify his remarks by saying he was referring only to Roethlisberger’s credentials as a first-ballot Hall of Famer.

Jordan has faced Roethlisberger only once before in his career, but it was a memorable game for the four-time Pro Bowler.

In their lone meeting in 2014, Jordan got the first interception of his career in addition to getting a sack.
