DHS Secretary Reveals Plans to Put Sanctuary City Dems Behind Bars
Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen revealed this week that the Trump administration has asked federal prosecutors to examine the prospect of potentially filing criminal charges against the lawmakers of cities that flagrantly provide so-called “sanctuary” to illegal immigrants.
Known as sanctuary cities, these cities or counties purposefully limit their cooperation with federal immigration authorities so as to protect illegal immigrants from being deported.
“The Department of Justice is reviewing what avenues might be available,” Nielsen said Tuesday to lawmakers on the Senate Judiciary Committee, according to Fox News, adding that sanctuary cities are putting the lives of Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers at risk.
Correct.
Thomas D. Homan, ICE’s acting director, made it clear in statements last summer that sanctuary cities are, in fact, “criminals’ biggest friends,” as they provide a buffer for illegal immigrants to commit even more crimes (besides illegally entering the United States), including but not limited to theft, rape and murder.
“(They) endanger public safety, they endanger my law enforcement officers,” he said, as reported by the Washington Examiner.
Interestingly, Homan made some additional comments during a recent appearance on Fox News that echoed exactly what Nielsen said Tuesday.
At the time, Homan specifically called for sanctuary city lawmakers to be held “personally accountable” for any crimes committed by illegal immigrants within their jurisdiction, saying, “We’ve got to start charging some of these politicians with crimes.”
He meant politicians such as the Democrat lawmakers of Sacramento, a sanctuary city where three years ago illegal immigrant Luis Enrique Monroy Bracamontes killed two local police officers.
“I wish I had killed more of the mother******s,” Bracamontes said during the start of his trial this week. “I will break out soon and I will kill more, kill whoever gets in front of me…There’s no need for a f***ing trial.”
Dovetailing back to Homan’s appearance on Fox News, he also reiterated the danger sanctuary city policies pose to his officers.
“What they have done is forced my officers to arrest dangerous criminals on their turf, in their homes and places of business, rather than arresting them in the safety and security of a county jail,” he said. “It’s ridiculous to annoyingly and intentionally put law enforcement at risk.”

Homan and Nielsen are both absolutely right about sanctuary cities. They do pose a danger to both the American people and the ICE agents tasked with protecting them from illegal immigrants.
However, whether or not the Trump administration will be able to successfully crack down on sanctuary city lawmakers remains to be seen, especially given the preponderance of liberal activist judges just itching to block anything the administration tries to accomplish.
