Parents Outraged as Middle Schoolers Bring Sexed Gingerbread Men Home from School
Progressive liberals have made it abundantly clear over the past few years that of all the important issues Americans face both at home and abroad, their ideas about gender identity are a high priority that must be addressed as early as possible with young schoolchildren.
Flagstaff Voices, a blog based in northern Arizona, reported last month about some incredibly controversial curriculum which revolved around various gender identities that had been taught to 7th grade students at Mount Elden Middle School, part of the Flagstaff United School District.
The blog posted two pictures of handouts that had been given to the students and noted that a special parental permission slip sent home with students ahead of a three-day presentation on domestic abuse (of which the gender handouts were a part) made no mention whatsoever of the curriculum that would be involved.
The controversy gained the attention of local radio host Jeff Oravits, who spoke on his show and wrote about how the school was teaching 7th graders about gender identity without the explicit knowledge of their parents.
The father of a student in the school told Oravits he had only learned about the content of the special presentation after the fact.
“My son … mentions (to us) there’s 60 something sexualities and we were like, ‘What the heck are you talking about?’” the father said. “I was just absolutely shocked and pretty outraged about what they were teaching them.”
The curriculum included the two handouts shared by Flagstaff Voices. One handout, titled “Universe Model of Gender,” instructed students that “men and women aren’t two opposite ends of a spectrum, with everyone else’s gender defined in between and dependent on that binary. They are just two of the many genders that exist in our amazing world.”
The handout also told students there are “as many named and unnamed genders as there are people and includes genderqueer, non-binary, pangender, androgyne, neutrois, gender-variant, AG, cyborg, two-spirit, glitterbutch, genderfluid, trigender, stud, agender, genderless.”
The other handout, titled “The Genderbread Person,” was described as a “tasty little guide meant to be an appetizer for gender understanding” and told the students that “gender isn’t binary” and they could pick and choose their own gender identity, gender expression and biological sex.
The father told Oravtis the information included on the handouts was “something you’d expect in college if you take a sexuality course, not something that you would find in seventh grade.”
The controversy was also reported on by the Arizona Daily Independent. Karin Eberhard, Associate Director of Communications and Public Relations for FUSD, confirmed to the newspaper that the handouts had been part of a three-day presentation for 7th grade students in language arts class as part of an effort to incorporate “anti bullying/harassment policy into a small piece of curriculum.”
ADI obtained a copy of the parental permission slip and confirmed it included no reference to any of the content of the curriculum students were being taught.
The curriculum had been presented by the Northland Family Help Center’s Community Education Department, and when pressed if the district’s governing board had approved the materials used, Eberhard stated, “The governing board does not approve outside presenters.”
A big problem many had with this material — besides having no clear bearing on the education of a student at that age — was that it only offered one side of the debate and seemed to discourage the opposing view of there only being two biological genders.
In other words, it indoctrinated young students into accepting the “fact” there is a plethora of various genders, and anyone who thinks or says differently is a bully who should be challenged.
“Liberals spend a lot of time in group-testing words and phrases in order to change the English language to promote their agenda,” said Arizona Rep. Bob Thorpe in response to the controversy. “Teaching 7th graders about the 50 to 60 liberal-identified genders has nothing to do with education, and everything to do with indoctrination.
“When you consider that only about one-third of Flagstaff students pass the AZMerit test, and now Arizona teachers are demanding a 20 percent pay increase, perhaps they should stop teaching about controversial political issues like gender and focus on the basic educational principles that will help our students be successful in jobs and in college.”
We couldn’t agree more. This sort of ridiculous indoctrination of young people on the topic of gender should be confined to the halls of liberal colleges and universities, and not be drilled into students’ heads in taxpayer-funded public schools.
