Well-known Christian speaker and author Joyce Meyer has been open about the abuse her father inflicted on her as a child.
In an interview posted to her website Monday, Meyer expounds on the abuse. Saying in the interview that the term “sexual abuse” was not enough, she said her father raped her numerous times throughout her childhood.
Meyer said, “He didn’t force me physically, but through lies, and manipulation, and fear, and threats, I was still forced. … My father did rape me, numerous times. I think that probably it was at least 200 times.”

As reported by the Christian Post, Meyer discussed the steps her father would take in order to abuse her, such as waiting until her mother was not at home, or taking her swimming. Adding her father also abused other girls, she said, “He wanted me to bring girls from school home so he can abuse them.”
The Christian author admitted to being ashamed of her parents when she was growing up, saying the shame of her father’s actions to her and other girls was overbearing.
She said she was afraid to admit that she was being mistreated as a girl, saying, “Sexual abuse is so shaming that nobody talks about it. Nobody knows how to talk about it.”

Meyer cited part of the reason behind her testimony is because she is thankful for God’s gift of freedom in no longer needing to pretend.
She asks the question, “How can that have happened to me, and me be standing here today, if God is not alive and well?”
Telling the audience she is sharing her testimony in the hopes of inspiring others and giving them hope that recovery through God is possible, Meyer added, “I want people to know how good God is, and that your struggle is worth it, your journey is worth it. Don’t give up.”
