Supermarket Under Fire After People See How Meat Was Delivered to Store

Path 27

When consumers buy raw meat in the United States, they expect a certain level of sanitation and care has gone into its production and delivery. Nobody wants dirty, old, or rotten meat. Butchers are trained professionals who are an important part of our supermarket system.

Sometimes, however, laziness or ignorance results in products that are less than ideal.

This is exactly what shoppers at the 99 Ranch Market in San Jose, California, discovered when they witnessed a meat delivery in all of its gross glory.

That’s exactly what it looks like.

Raw meat being carted in on buggies, with no protective wrapping or barrier between the germs of the cart and the cuts.

When Facebook user Loretta Seto saw this, she went directly to social media and posted the pictures. Her post has over 2,000 shares in only a few days.

As an NBC affiliate in the Bay Area reported, the grocery store commented on the original post, saying “we are taking the necessary steps to resolve this issue by investigating this case further and filing a complaint against our vendor.”

This statement did not do much to convince the health inspector.

Would you ever give this place a second chance?

The Santa Clara Department of Environmental Health has opened an investigation into the viral photos, trying to figure out if this was a fluke or a common practice.

The company responsible for the delivery, Jim’s Farm Meat, has fired the employees pictured with the meat carts, according to The Modesto Bee.

“This isn’t anything we typically do. When we send our products out, they are always in a combo bin and wrapped. That’s how it left our facility,” said spokeswoman Maria Moon.

She had no excuse as to why the meat was being carted in that manner in the first place.

Although with the publicity these photos have had so far, it’s safe to say that these companies will probably experience a sharp downturn in sales in the coming months.
