Teacher Hears Knock on Door, Baby Left with Umbilical Cord Still Attached
Many school teachers become great role models for the students that they teach. But one student felt so supported by her teacher that she trusted her with a life.
For one 13-year-old Baker, Louisiana, girl, life had thrown her a curve ball. At such a young and tender age, she found herself with the shocking consequences of some poorly made choices.
One evening, the young girl secretly gave birth to a baby. She hadn’t even known that she was pregnant and did not know what to do.
She cleaned the infant up and tried to figure out what to do next.
She went to one person she looked up to, her teacher who lived close by. With a quick knock, the baby was left on the front door step.
The teacher was beyond shocked as she opened her door and saw the infant there. The umbilical cord was still attached but the baby was healthy.
It’s a sad story, but also inspiring. The girl said that the father was also 13 years old and they did not know what to do.
Though she did not follow the Safe Haven laws that encourage unwanted babies to be taken to churches or fire stations for their own safety — she probably didn’t know about them — she did take her baby to a trusted home.
Chief Carl Dunn said, “She didn’t have a clue about what to do with the child, so she thought about the school teacher.”
The girl’s parents also had no idea of the pregnancy.
Frightened and unsure, many are praising the girl for choosing to take the baby where she believed it would be safe. The child was later turned over to the Department of Children and Families.
The girl’s story was posted on social media where it had gotten a lot of attention. Many of the comments are asking, for those who judge, to keep in mind her tender age of 13.
One comment talked about seeing the good in sad situations and the love that this girl showed in finding a safe place for her baby.
More and more comments were finding the positive side in her story instead of condemning her.
For all of the negative stories we hear about mothers abandoning their babies, this young girl set a good example.
Though she may have made some poor choices that led her to getting pregnant, in the end, she made the right choice to give her new baby a chance.
