Tebow injury report: He's out for the season
There’s some bad news for Tim Tebow, his fans and Mets officials hoping for a boost in ticket sales despite a putrid season.
The Double-A Binghamton Rumble Ponies slugger is likely out of the season according to a report.
Mets’ minor-league OF Tim Tebow broke the hamate bone in his right hand swinging the bat this weekend and is scheduled to have surgery Tuesday and is now likely out for the season, per MLB source. #sticktobasketball

The hamate bone is a wedge-shaped carpal bone located on the outside wrist. It is the same side as the pinky finger.
The surgery, which is scheduled for Tuesday, will likely spell an end to Tebow’s season.
It also dashes the hopes of any potential September call-up to the New York Mets.
The injury couldn’t have happened at a worse time for Tebow. Not only will it torpedo a potential major league call-up, but it brings Tebow’s red-hot hitting streak to a crashing halt.
Tebow overcame a slow start to his Double-A career and was in the midst of a promising season before the injury derailed him. He was hitting .273 with six home runs, 36 RBIs, a stolen base and a .734 OPS through 298 plate appearances.
Tebow’s strikeout rate is still an area that needs improvement, but he won’t be able improve upon it this season.
Perhaps the worst part of the injury is that Tebow was beginning to prove so many of his critics and doubters wrong.
Derided as a publicity stunt, Tebow’s pursuit of a baseball career turned into an honest endeavor. Through his tireless work ethic and humble attitude, Tebow blossomed into an Eastern League All-Star this season.
As of this writing, Tebow has yet to comment on his potential season-ending injury. Though, in typical Tebow fashion, his last social media post was an uplifting message to his 4.84 million Twitter followers.
Loving others is not an option. As followers of Jesus, we don’t get to love certain people and not others. #ThisIsTheDay

While the setback is significant, all is not lost. There’s little reason to think that Tebow won’t bounce back from his injury.
The hamate injury is actually fairly common in baseball and rarely a long-term, debilitating injury. Los Angeles Dodgers star Justin Turner actually broke his in spring training and was able to return to form mid-season.
There will likely be lingering discomfort for Tebow, but he should be able to get back to work sooner than later.
On the bright side, Tebow should have a little more time to spend with his Miss Universe girlfriend.
