Teen Sings Order at McDonald's Drive-Thru, Instantly Goes Viral

Share

Since its founding way back in 1955, McDonald’s has made some pretty memorable contributions to popular culture. Occasionally, you can get kind of hungry just thinking about it.

From a quick-service lunch and dinner standpoint, the list is almost endless. Well-loved entries include Big Macs, Snack Wraps, Egg McMuffins, crispy fries and that oh-so-elusive McRib.

But the Golden Arches also serves up some great breakfast grub, like McGriddles, Egg McMuffins and Hot Cakes. These days, even health-conscious customers can often find something to satisfy their appetite.

But arguably, Mickey D’s most enduring impact on the cultural landscape may have nothing to do with actual food. Over the decades, the burger giant has been responsible for an array of tasty tunes and jingles.

Recently, in fact, one South Carolina 16-year-old decided to try her hand at singing the “McDonald’s Drive-Thru Song.” This rhythmic little ditty was originally made popular by YouTube sensation Todrick Hall, of American Idol fame.

Of course, Conway resident Cecily Hennigan opted to super-size her personal rendition, so to speak. She belted it out at the actual McDonald’s drive-through on local US-501, while her friend filmed the proceedings from the passenger seat.

The secret sauce that spiced things up even further? Local NBC affiliate WYFF-TV reports that Hennigan is actually a music student at Greenville-based Governor’s School for the Arts.

So when Hennigan began dishing up those familiar lyrics, the McDonald’s employee at the other end of the intercom listened with rapt attention.

“I want a number six super-size with the Sprite and large fries,” crooned Hennigan. “Mustard ketchup only please, but don’t you forget the cheese,” she melodically admonished, while her female friend contributed some helpful beat-box effects on the dashboard.

As Hennigan reached her big finish, her “crowd of one” went about as wild as a one-person crowd can go. The impressed McDonald’s staffer cheered and whooped, while the girls in the car laughed and clapped triumphantly.

Hennigan sweetly apologized, explaining to her audience that “I really already ordered my food.” Then she thanked her anonymous listener and cheerfully added, “Have a good night!”

Local ABC affiliate WPDE-TV reports that the video snippet was subsequently posted to Facebook. Almost instantly, it garnered hundreds of comments and well over 90,000 views.

All this might prompt readers of a certain age to nostalgically recall some other McDonald’s jingles from years gone by. One immortal example?

The fast food chain’s very first foray into the rap game, which initially appeared back in 1974. Since then, it’s been remixed, covered, spoofed and sampled an incalculable number of times.

That particular vintage version sings the praises of “two all-beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions, on a sesame seed bun.”

So if you just experienced a silent snack attack, go treat yourself to some fries or a chocolate shake. After all, you deserve a break today.
