Teen Unrecognizable After He Lost 115 Lbs Walking to School Every Day for 3 Years

Losing weight is hard. Self-discipline is a huge component when it comes to shedding those unwanted pounds.

For Michael Watson of Canton, Ohio, letting go of his favorite foods — pizza in particular — was a difficult task, but one he knew he had to accomplish.

In his earlier teen years, Watson — who is over 6 feet tall — weighed more than 300 pounds. As is sadly typical among teens, the young man was reportedly bullied for his size.

“My self-confidence was zero,” Watson told CNN.

One day he looked in the mirror and he knew something had to change, not just because of the bullies, but because he wanted a better life for himself.

So, he made a few adjustments to his lifestyle — and that made all the difference. Watson didn’t join a gym or begin a vigorous workout routine. He didn’t even count his calories.

Instead, Watson (now 18) simply started walking and making healthier choices.

“Oatmeal for breakfast. I’d eat eggs for lunch,” he shared with WJW.

Now Watson is a senior at McKinley High School and has lost 115 pounds. Watson credits much of his success to walking the 20 minutes to and from school every day, rain or shine.

He’s truly an inspiration to his peers and now his school district is even recognizing his outstanding achievement.

McKinley Senior Limelight is one way the district showcases seniors who have done something noteworthy. Watson was a recent feature.

“After years of being overweight, Michael took matters into his own hands,” the Canton City School District Facebook post reads. “He adopted a healthier lifestyle of eating and exercise by taking the road less traveled…”

“Family Support Specialist Terrance Jones said he couldn’t be more proud of this student’s perseverance,” the post continued. “Congratulations Michael!!!”

Jones spoke with CNN and shared how Watson’s journey impacted him. “It’s an example of courageous personal development that’s rare for a high school student,” Jones told the news outlet.

Jones added that he’d always remember the young man’s drive and dedication to adopting a healthy lifestyle.

Way to go, Michael! You are proof that anyone can achieve their goals with hard work and a lot of determination.
