Trouble for Arrogant Comey as Ex-FBI Agent Says IG Report Is 'Worse Than Expected'

Share

Ironically spurred on by the request of congressional Democrats in January 2017, the Department of Justice’s Office of Inspector General has since been quietly investigating suspected politicization and shady behavior within the top ranks of the DOJ and FBI, with particular regard to previous high-profile investigations that occurred ahead of the 2016 presidential election.

A preliminary report released in April from Inspector General Michael Horowitz has already resulted in the firing of former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe for lying to investigators about unauthorized leaks to the media, and will likely lead to criminal charges against McCabe as well.

It is widely believed that a final report from Horowitz will be released some time this month, and it is expected to be especially harsh for fired FBI Director James Comey and many of his top underlings, according to a report from Time.

A retired FBI agent-turned-CNN analyst tweeted as much Wednesday, warning that the soon-to-be released report would be even “worse than expected.”

“Sources with knowledge of the impending DOJ Inspector General Report confirm that it will be a fairly damning indictment of FBI’s seventh floor during the Comey era. ‘It’s worse than expected,’ seems to be the consistent theme,” CNN law enforcement analyst James Gagliano tweeted.

The FBI’s seventh floor is the location of the director’s office and other top officials associated with the bureau’s leadership.

A “damning indictment” of the FBI’s top leadership during the era in which Comey was in charge would seem to indicate that the disgraced former director and those closest to him could soon be facing some serious trouble once the IG’s report is finalized and released.

The article from Time suggests the IG report will largely focus on the mishandling by Comey and his staff of the Clinton email investigation during 2016, in which former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was cleared of wrongdoing even as she was found to be in possession of classified government documents on an unauthorized and unsecured private email server.

Are you anxious to see the IG report on James Comey's handling of the Clinton email investigation?

The report could also touch on other ignominious failures on the part of the FBI, such as missing mass shooters and terrorists brought to their attention prior to deadly attacks and the mishandling of several other high-profile cases.

That quite obviously could include the counterintelligence investigation into alleged Russian interference and collusion with the Trump campaign during the 2016 election, which appears to have been based upon the unsubstantiated and “salacious” anti-Trump dossier — funded by Clinton and Democrats and compiled by a Democrat-affiliated opposition research firm — which has since been transformed into a special counsel investigation led by former FBI Director Robert Mueller.

Some of our readers may be among those who’ve grown exceedingly impatient with the appearance that Attorney General Jeff Sessions is doing nothing with regard to holding people accountable for those failures, and on the surface the impatience with apparent inaction would seem justified.

However, it must be noted that Sessions announced some time ago that he had assigned a federal prosecutor — U.S. Attorney John Huber from Utah — to lead a team that has been working with Horowitz in regard to prosecuting any potential crimes that may be revealed in the IG report.

It is highly likely that concurrent with or shortly after the release of the IG report, there will also be a slew of indictments handed down from Huber, which could very well include Comey, McCabe and many of their associates within the agency.

Rumors indicate the IG report will be released on or around May 18, so Comey and friends likely have a short while until their misadventures in the FBI over the past few years will be revealed.

At that time, Comey and others could find themselves in a world of trouble as accountability, actual justice and a respect for the rule of law is returned to its rightful place.
