One of the unwritten rules of political campaigns is to leave wives and families out of the discussion. But Melania Trump and Heidi Cruz are the subjects of a new Twitter war between their husbands and Republican rivals, Donald Trump and Sen. Ted Cruz.
In a now deleted tweet, Trump chastised Cruz, “Wow @SenTedCruz, that is some low level ad you did using a picture of Melania in a G.Q. shoot. Be careful or I will spill the beans on your wife,” he said. Multiple Twitter users noted Trump deleted the comment within moments.
The Cruz campaign did not pay for the ad. It was funded by the Super PAC Make America Awesome, which supports Cruz. The ad featured a nude picture of Melania Trump with the caption, “Meet Melania Trump, Your Next First Lady. Or, You Could Support Ted Cruz on Tuesday.” The ad targeted the Mormon demographic.

Trump posted another tweet, “Lyin’ Ted Cruz just used a picture of Melania from a G.Q. shoot in his ad. Be careful, Lyin’ Ted, or I will spill the beans on your wife!” he said.
Cruz responded about an hour later, “Pic of your wife not from us. Donald, if you try to attack Heidi, you’re more of a coward than I thought. #classless,” he said.
Heidi Cruz took time off from her career at Goldman Sachs to helped her husbands presidential campaign. She has become one of the campaign’s best fundraisers.

Trump used Twitter in the past to target and attack the Ricketts family, owners of the Chicago Cubs, who helped to fund a negative campaign ad against him.
