Hours before the delivery of his acceptance speech at the Republican National Convention, GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump took the stand Thursday afternoon to conduct a brief mic check and throw a few sarcastic jabs at the media.
“I love the media. They’re so honest, they’re such honorable people. It’s about time I said that,” Trump quipped as people in the audience chuckled.
As most people know, Trump has had numerous contentions with the news media and frequently criticizes them for what he deems dishonest conduct. Trump has not been shy about these comments, either, making it a frequent point to roast members of the media at his rallies.

On several occasions, Trump has ousted certain members of the press as well, revoking acceptance of their credentials and barring access to campaign events.
Trump’s relationship with the press has not been entirely hostile, however, as he often finds ways of creating a sort of symbiosis with the media whereby he receives extensive free coverage. Trump has also regularly hosted press conferences and allowed reporters a front-row seat to his campaign.

After poking fun at the press, Trump continued to use the mic check to praise our nation’s police force and expressed his love for the city of Cleveland, which is hosting the Republican convention.
Trump’s speech is set to occur later around 10 p.m. Eastern time Thursday. However, a copy of the speech has also been leaked in a possible attempt at political sabotage.
