Another Trumper Wins Primary, Dems Sweating Bullets as Blue Wave Turns into Puddle
Republican Rep. Martha Roby won the Alabama primary runoff with 67 percent of the vote, Politico reported Tuesday.
Roby defeated former Democratic Rep. Bobby Bright — who has since become a Republican — despite her 2016 criticism of President Donald Trump.
Roby said she did not vote for Trump in 2016, citing concerns about the “Access Hollywood” tape where Trump claimed he could grope women.
However, she has since restored his favor and gained his endorsement in the run-off race.
She voted in Trump’s favor 96.5 percent of the time, The Hill reported Tuesday.
“Congresswoman Martha Roby of Alabama has been a consistent and reliable vote for our Make America Great Again Agenda. She is in a Republican Primary run-off against a recent Nancy Pelosi voting Democrat. I fully endorse Martha for Alabama 2nd Congressional District!” Trump tweeted in June 2018.

Bright came under fire for his Democratic past during the run-off, especially in U.S. Chamber of Commerce ads highlighting his past connections to Nancy Pelosi, according to The Hill.
The ads cost $200,000. Roby also had the support of Winning for Women, a group that supports female free-market candidates and also launched ads favoring her, The Hill article stated.
Roby previously failed to secure over 50 percent of the vote in the primary for Alabama’s 2nd Congressional District, gaining only 39 percent, according to Politico.
That required her to face second place finisher Bright in the run-off.
Roby is expected to win the general election in her district, which leans heavily Republican.
Trump won Alabama’s 2nd Congressional District by 30 points.
