Trump's 'Salute to America' Smashes Fox News July 4 Record
President Donald Trump was roundly mocked by liberals for promoting his “Salute to America” over Independence Day, but it looks like he will have the last laugh.
The numbers are now in, and it appears that the patriotic event was a viewership win for both the president and Fox News. The network’s coverage of the “Salute” set a 4th of July ratings record, while other networks fell behind.
“Fox News had 4.8 million viewers for its coverage of President Trump’s Fourth of July ‘Salute to America’ speech, according to Nielsen Media Research, marking the highest ratings the network has registered on July 4 in its nearly 23-year history,” The Hill reported on Tuesday.
“In the 25- to 54-year-old demographic sought by advertisers, Fox News averaged 793,000 viewers during the president’s remarks, while CNN averaged 353,000 in the category,” that outlet added.
While CNN broadcast the president’s speech at the Lincoln Memorial, the left-leaning network attracted only a fraction of Fox News’ more in-depth coverage. Only 1.5 million viewers tuned in to CNN, around three times fewer than their competitor.
That’s good news for Fox, which has been dominating the cable news ratings for some time. The news also vindicates Trump, who was blasted by the left for daring to be patriotic on a holiday centered on patriotism.
Some liberals wrung their hands and fretted over the military parade.
“I also have some concerns about a president not celebrating the military but glorifying military might,” Washington, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser complained to NPR. “That scares me the most.”
But Fox’s record-breaking numbers show that a large number of Americans enjoyed the event.
And the president’s own poll numbers don’t seem to have been damaged.
A HarrisX poll from July 6-9 indicated Trump’s approval rating was up to 45%, among the highest figures of his presidency.
While this year’s event is now behind us, there’s a good chance that liberals will again be “triggered” by patriotism next Independence Day.
“It was a wonderful day for all Americans and based on its tremendous success, we’re just making the decision and I think we can say we’ve made the decision to do it again next year,” Trump said on Monday, according to The Hill.
Once again, it looks like Trump had his finger on the pulse of the nation while his critics did not. The reality that outlets like CNN overlooked is that Americans like being patriotic, especially on Independence Day.
The “Salute” event refused to be ashamed of America’s successes. That’s why it resonated with people, and that just might be why the president has a clear path to re-election next year.
