Watch 102-Year-Old's Face Light Up When She's Granted Life-Long Wish and Finally Rides a Horse

It was originally shared via YouTube by Mari Ann Lisenbe, founder of Texas-based MariGold Bars. As Lisenbe explained, “My mom, Grandma Riggs, has always been a horsewoman.”
So when it came time for Grandma Riggs to celebrate her 102nd birthday, her family figured she’d wish for something equestrian-related. But her specific request took shape in a surprising way.
Sure, it sounded pretty simple on the surface. According to Lisenbe, Grandma Riggs wanted “to go see the horses, of course.”
But according to Horses World, Grandma Riggs had never actually ridden a horse. And as she made her way over to meet a stately cream-colored steed, she decided there was no time like the present.
So she leaned against her red walker, and asked for a little assistance. A polite stable hand brought over a step stool, and Grandma Riggs climbed straight to the top.
Then she placed her sneaker in the stirrup, and a couple kindly folks helped settle her into the saddle. “You did it. Look at you, Mom!” her admiring daughter exclaimed.
It was quite an impressive accomplishment. “You have to get a picture of this, ‘cause it may never happen again,” Grandma Riggs said.
But everyone in attendance felt sure Grandma Riggs could continue doing whatever she set her mind to. In fact, she even seemed a little more spirited than the actual horse at first.
“This is not the time to be nervous,” Grandma Riggs said with the slightest hint of a smile, while the animal stood stock-still. “Should have been nervous before.”
When asked if she felt comfortable up in the saddle, Grandma Riggs was equally wry. “Yes and no,” she admitted.
But her kindly gentleman helper provided constant reassurance. “I’ve got you, I won’t let you go,” he said.
In fairness, the even-tempered charger was probably being extra-gentle with his elderly passenger. And after an extended series of encouraging chirrups, the duo began their gradual stroll around the yard.
Grandma Riggs was also asked what she’d like to do for her 103rd birthday, and she announced that she wanted to repeat the experience. She even offered to challenge Queen Elizabeth herself, who at that time had just turned 90.
So if you’re putting off a dream due to age or lack of energy, remember that birthday candles merely represent a number. You’ll never be as young again as you are this very minute, and you’ll never be too old to go after your dreams!
