Watch Baby Boy's Smile Moment He Hears Mom and Dad's Voices for Very First Time

Think about all the things that ring pure and true in your life. A lot of times those things are backed by concrete observation, or even scientific data.

But more often than not, they’re things you simply know deep down in your gut. Your heart feels that absolute certainty, no matter what statistics or spreadsheets might say.

Take the example of babies and their parents. A mother’s voice is the very first human sound a newborn infant ever encounters.

In fact, the New York Post cites an interesting 2014 study. Its findings strongly suggest that babies can distinctly recognize the voice of their mothers — even in the womb.

So little ones like Archer Ruiz face an especially heartbreaking life challenge. When he was only three weeks old, Archer was diagnosed with hearing loss.

That makes Archer part of a select group no parent ever wants to see their child join. According to the March of Dimes, nearly 12,000 U.S. babies are born with compromised hearing every single year.

Based upon findings from the 2014 study mentioned above, that puts these wee ones at a poignant disadvantage. They don’t get to experience the soothing, stress-relieving power only their mother’s voice can provide.

Anyone who’s ever leaned on the unconditional love of a mother understands the fundamental truth of these words. Facts and figures aren’t even necessary.

Should all children have their hearing checked regularly?

Maybe that’s why an uplifting video of Archer, posted by KWTV and other media outlets, has gone viral so quickly. It shows the amazing, breath-suspending instant when he embraced his mother’s and father’s adoring voices for the very first time.

The “Today” show reports that Archer’s parents, Taryn and Drew Ruiz, are from Oklahoma City. Thanks to generous assistance from Oklahoma-based Hearts for Hearing, they secured special hearing aids for their brave baby boy.

When the time came to test these hearing aids, Archer was understandably anxious. He fussed and fretted in Taryn’s arms, as her reassuring words remained silent in his ears.

But then, as Archer continued to cry dejectedly, a magical moment occurred. A technician gently switched on those tiny hearing devices.

Archer’s hopeful grandparents filmed the next several seconds. “Archer, Archer, hey buddy,” his mother cooed tenderly.

Archer stopped crying instantly. “Hey baby,” Taryn continued, softly rocking her son as he tried to process what was happening.

Dad leaned in with some encouraging words of his own. And then, a look of near ecstasy dawned on Archer’s little face.

Now it was mom’s turn to weep, openly and gratefully. Taryn quietly kissed her baby’s chubby cheeks, as his eyes positively sparkled with joy.

Archer smiled and gurgled gleefully, while Mom repeatedly told him “I love you.” And viewers around the world, who clearly comprehend the true blessing of this family exchange, have yet to stop cheering.
