A longtime Clinton insider and confidant spent nearly nine hours at the Capitol on Tuesday giving a closed-door deposition about Hillary and Benghazi-related emails he sent to the then secretary of state. At the end of the marathon session, Sidney Blumenthal was sharply critical of the interrogation headed by Rep. Trey Gowdy, chairman of the House Select Committee on Benghazi. As TheBlaze reports, Blumenthal charged that his appearance “was for one reason and one reason only, and that reason is politics.”
Chairman Gowdy, a Republican congressman from South Carolina, said the session shed little light on the 2012 attack at the U.S. compound in Benghazi. And, as Gowdy told Megyn Kelly on her Fox News show, it turns out that Blumenthal’s numerous emails to Clinton when she was the country’s top diplomat apparently served to pass along third-party information, not his personal knowledge or insights about the volatile situation in Libya leading up to the deadly assault that left four Americans dead.
However, the Blumenthal emails at the heart of yesterday’s secret deposition and Hillary Clinton’s responses to those communications could lead to further complications for the former head of the State Department. By clicking on the video above, you can see what those complications might be as you watch the Trey Gowdy interview on The Kelly File.
