If they really wanted to help inspire and lift up African-Americans…if, as many argue, they weren’t so invested in promoting and maintaining a racially charged sense of bitter and angry “victimhood” in the hood…Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, Eric Holder, and Barack and Michelle Obama would do well to spend a couple of minutes watching this video.
Just a couple of minutes is all it takes to become infected with the high-energy, can-do attitude of a Texas high school football player named Apollos Hester. This running back for the East View High School Patriots in Georgetown, Texas gave an interview after their comeback win over Vandergrift that, as one TV anchor put it, “is in the interview hall of fame.”
In a political period when charges of racism are so easily and frequently hurled about, it’s undeniably refreshing to hear and feel the awesome attitude of a young man with no racial agenda and no axe to grind, whose belief is that attitude is what it takes to overcome and be triumphant.
