Watch: Maddow Gets Corrected on Air by Her Own Production Staff in Middle of Lie About AG Barr

Share

Rachel Maddow’s MSNBC show has become increasingly unhinged since Robert Mueller’s report got delivered to Attorney General William Barr. In fact, you’d be excused if you thought you were listening to Alex Jones, given the number of conspiracy theories being peddled.

Even a writer for Slate — not exactly a hive of conservative thought — observed that the “The Rachel Maddow Show” show has become a clearinghouse for all kinds of bizarre theories.

Last week was a special sort of crazy for Maddow, however. Not only did she peddle an absolutely false narrative about Attorney General Barr on Friday, she did it as her own production staff pointed out how she was wrong with the chyron on the bottom of the screen.

The moment, which had to do with redactions to the report by special counsel Robert Mueller, was recorded for posterity and posted to Twitter by a contributing writer for The Nation. It came as she said the attorney general was unilaterally redacting parts of the report for when he presents it to Congress.

Redactions, Maddow said, are something “that Mueller’s team does in its sleep.”

“It’s hard to believe that they’d leave the newly appointed 68-year-old Attorney General William Barr to himself personally pick through the report to try to figure out what mentions in this 400-page report might pertain to open cases.

“They wouldn’t leave that to Barr to do that. Mueller would have done that,” she continued.

“Mueller’s team would have done that as part of producing anything they would have handed over outside their own offices. They’ve done that with every other document they have produced over the course of their investigation. You’d assume they’d be able to do that with this document, too.

“But William Barr says, eh, it’s taking him a really long time because he’s having to do that himself.”

Unusual? Hardly, especially for Maddow. What was unusual was what was along the bottom of the screen as she said this: “Barr: Special Counsel is Assisting with Redactions.”

Glenn Greenwald of The Intercept — who has criticized Maddow in the past and says he was banned from MSNBC for doing so — was, one might say, displeased at her handling of the facts.

“This is truly shocking, no matter how low your expectations are now for MSNBC & Maddow,” he tweeted.

“Just watch it and see for yourself how completely dislodged she is from any semblance of rationality, journalistic responsibility or even basic honesty. It’s sad to watch, & there are victims.”

I’m kind of surprised he’s surprised, given Maddow’s fall from … well, it’s hard to call it grace.

Do you think Rachel Maddow has gone off of the deep end?

This is her show now. This is MSNBC now. This is them.

Was she reporting poorly? Was she lying through her teeth? Does it even matter at this point?

Mueller fever and Trump Derangement Syndrome persists, no matter what the actual information may indeed be, or what Attorney General Barr is doing with it.

We should indeed be grateful there was the chyron there to instruct us all in what the actual truth was. At least someone’s awake at MSNBC, if not perhaps woke.
