Watch: Rep. Gaetz Infuriates Dems by Shoving Their Own Words Back in Their Face
The Democrats may try to run from their earlier claims that “no humanitarian crisis exists” at the southern border.
But thanks to Florida Republican Rep. Matt Gaetz, they cannot hide.
In early 2019, Americans could hardly turn on the television or read a news site without seeing the Democrats claim President Donald Trump had manufactured a crisis.
As Trump tried to garner political support for immigration reform, the Dems were thwarting his efforts by denying there was any problem at all.
As unprecedented numbers of illegals overwhelmed our resources at the border, the Democrats repeated their assigned talking point: “Nothing to see here, folks.”

But of course, there was something to see.
And it was as alarming as it was heartbreaking. The U.S. Customs and Border Patrol had neither the resources nor the facilities to adequately provide for the hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants swarming into America. And it has only gotten worse.
Only after the facts and footage became so compelling that the Democrats would lose all credibility did they abandon their strategy of denial.
But now, as the Democrats try to take the position that the crisis is being dealt with improperly or too slowly or not all, their earlier denials are embarrassingly inconvenient.
And that is not an opportunity that Gaetz was going to let pass him by.
During a meeting of the House Judiciary Committee regarding the Democrat’s efforts to subpoena documents from the Trump administration related to migrant family separation, Gaetz decided to create a bit of theater by pulling out his phone.
It wasn’t the Republicans that were in denial. Dems didn’t act when President @realDonaldTrump wanted Congress to provide funding to the border crisis.

Gaetz then played the above clip of the Democrat Whip, Jim Clyburn, denying the existence of a crisis.
And he played it again and again on loop.
It infuriated another Democrat lawmaker to the degree she asked if the rules even allowed such a thing.
(They do.)
Gaetz pounced on the question.
“When you’re fed back your own words, from your own leadership, from earlier this year, you think it’s out of context and inappropriate!” he said.
Gaetz may have had a bit a of fun at the Democrats’ expense, but his point is as true as it is hilarious.
The Democrats are exploiting the situation at the border for political points. They denied the crisis then accused Trump of being a racist for not providing sufficient aid — and then voted against a humanitarian aid bill 17 times.
Their tactics are obvious and shameful.
The border crisis will continue until both parties work together to propose sustainable solutions.
There may be blame enough to pass around, but the Democrats denying the problem and then denying that they denied it isn’t helping us get any closer to an immigration solution.
