Watch: Road-Raged Man Confronts Vehicle, Finds Russian Soldiers Ready for a Fight

Share

A young man is going viral on social media after he apparently filmed himself in a road-rage confrontation with the wrong sort of vehicle.

The video, shared to social media by actress and conservative pundit Mindy Robinson, begins with a man in a BMW getting cut off by a Mercedes Benz G-Wagen.

Well, our friend in the BMW is apparently feeling his oats, so he speeds around the Mercedes SUV and then blocks it in by stopping at an angle in front of it.

The road-raged young man gets out, cell phone in hand, and goes to confront the occupants of the other vehicle.

As he walks up to the G-Wagen, the rear window begins to come down. And there, in the back seat, are three Russian soldiers, heavily armed.

Along with that, there’s also a gun being pointed at him:

So, as you can see, the young man makes a beeline back to his car, puts it in gear and gets the heck out of there.

As of Friday morning, the video had garnered more than 1.5 million views, making this unidentified young man famous indeed. (For all the wrong reasons.)

Now, is it a setup? An elaborate hoax? A Smollett? It’s always difficult with internet videos to determine the exact provenance of them.

After all, it’s difficult to see why this young man would upload video of himself getting a hard lesson in the realities of escalating a road-rage incident unless he thought he was still in the right. Or maybe he thought having a gun pointed at him was at least an interesting story.

There’s also the fact that the camera always seems to be pointed at the right spot. For instance, as he gets back in the car after having a gun pointed at him, he manages to get a shot of the gearshift as he puts it in drive. Perhaps it was a felicitous moment, but what are the odds?

On the other hand, what are the odds of procuring a G-Wagen, a bunch of identical military-appearing outfits and several individuals to fill them out who appear to be heavily armed? That’s not an easy thing to do, and if this guy was able to pull it off, hats off to him. Also, keep in mind this is Russia, land of the insane road-rage video. This hardly seems unusual.

That being said, assuming it’s real, there are several practical takeaways here.

Firstly, don’t do this. This seems to go without saying, but there’s always a small but significant proportion of people out on the road willing to pull a stunt like this. I’ve even had this happen once on the New Jersey Turnpike, where my mother and I were forced to the side of the road by a nutcase in a Volvo who promptly got out of the car with a baseball bat.

Do you think that this driver got what was coming to him?

In our case, neither of us were Russian soldiers nor had a firearm (I was younger then, and my mother — a former McGovern volunteer who believes Beto O’Rourke is a bit too conservative for her — wasn’t a big Second Amendment believer). That being said, we did have a cellphone, and after being pursued by him for a good five minutes, the guy realized we’d called 911 and pulled off at the next exit. We were told he was given a visit by the New Jersey State Police, though I forget the resolution of the whole thing.

Even if you’re not the violent sort, however, there’s always the type that gets too frustrated on the road. You can’t control what other people do. What you can control is your reaction. If some idiot cuts you off, well, you’re not going to teach him a lesson by tailgating him or her. You may think you’re engaging in a vehicular form of operant conditioning. What you’re engaging in is stupidity.

You’re probably not going to end up getting confronted by Russian soldiers. That doesn’t mean you’re not putting yourself in danger. Real or fake, let this be an object lesson — as well as an entertaining diversion.
