Brett Favre's post-NFL career brings pups to military vets in need

Share

Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre has embarked on a new venture to connect military veterans with service dogs to provide support for when they return home.

“We’re connecting them with these dogs and its saving their lives, it’s really incredible,” Favre said in a video on TMZ Sports.

The effort is through a partnership between Favre’s 4 Outdoors program, which strives to create meaningful outdoors experiences for people and organizations in need, and Dogs2DogTags, which pairs service dogs with veterans who need them.

“I really believe we’ve made a positive difference and a positive impact on their lives,” Favre said.

Favre interviewed U.S. Navy veteran Brian Jordan for a recent episode of the show he hosts, 4Outdoors, sponsored by Petco.

Do you know someone affected by PTSD?
“Nothing beats a dog companion for post-traumatic stress disorder,” Jordan said.

“Coming back from over there, a lot of people don’t want to admit that they have PTSD. It’s not an easy thing to talk about,” Jordan said.

“I never really thought that I had it. But I will say, just knowing that this cause is here, it’s helping tremendously just being able to open up and talk about it more,” Jordan added.

Favre and Dogs2DogTags presented Jordan with Trip, a one year old black lab.

The service dogs cost about $50,000 to train, TMZ Sports said. And that’s where Favre’s group steps in, helping with the funding and promotion of this great program.

Favre said the plan is to reconvene with Jordan and the other veterans who have been provided a service dog through Dogs2DogTags to see how they’re doing.

“I think it’s important to follow up and see how they’ve done in six months, a year to really answer that question with 100 percent certainty,” Favre told TMZ Sports.
