College Football Player Arrested in Attempted Double-Murder Scheme

Share

Another football player associated with Rutgers University is in trouble with the law.

Junior linebacker Izaia Bullock was charged Tuesday with two counts of first-degree attempted murder and two counts of first-degree conspiracy to commit murder, according to the Middlesex County, New Jersey, Prosecutor’s Office.

On Oct. 29, the county prosecutor’s office, along with the Rutgers police, determined that Bullock, 22, “initiated a plot to murder the family members of an acquaintance.”

The intended victims are not affiliated with the university.

Bullock was dismissed from the team.

He is being held at the Middlesex County Adult Correction Center pending a court appearance, the county prosecutor’s office said.

The investigation is active and ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Lauren Tredo of the Rutgers University Police Department at (848) 932-8025 or Detective Michael Connelly of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office at (732) 745-3254.

Rutgers coach Chris Ash declined to comment on the matter, NJ.com reported.

Bullock, from Piscataway, New Jersey, made the team in September 2017 as a walk-on, according to NJ.com.

He previously played for Gattaca Football Club, a private junior college club football program in New Jersey, the report said.

Bullock has played in only one game for Rutgers this season, Fox News reported.

This is not the first time a Rutgers player has run afoul of the law.

In August, eight Rutgers football players were arrested for their alleged involvement in a credit card scam. According to prosecutors, the players used the dark web to obtain credit card numbers and transferred funds to various Rutgers debit card accounts.

Four of those players left the team, and the other four were suspended indefinitely while their case is being heard.

Earlier in August, two former Rutgers football players were sent to prison for a series of armed robberies. Tejay Johnson was sentenced to 12 years in prison for a series of three armed robberies that occurred in 2015. Andre Boggs was sentenced to 12 years in jail for his involvement in the crime.

It’s been a rough season for the Scarlet Knights on the field, too. They have lost seven straight and are 1-7, last in the Big Ten.

With their remaining games against 5-3 Wisconsin, 7-1 Michigan, 6-2 Penn State and 5-3 Michigan State, it’s unlikely they’ll win again this year.
