Watch disrespectful fans chant 'overrated' at LeBron James' son during game

Share

With LeBron James firmly entrenched as the best basketball player on the planet, it’s kind of hard to call him overrated and still be taken seriously.

So if people can’t lob that chant at LeBron, then they do what they deem to be the closest thing — call his 13-year-old son overrated.

Bronny James is one of the best players in his age group — and not just because of who his father is. He plays for an elite travel team — the North Coast Blue Chips — and during one of their games, a contingent of LeBron haters decided to chant “Overrated … Overrated” at Bronny.

From the video, it appears to be mostly kids chanting overrated, but it also sounded like there were some rather deep, mature voices echoing the chant.

Bronny and his team are competing in Charlotte, North Carolina, which may cause a cynic to think that Hornets owner Michael Jordan hired the kids to make the chant as a shot at LeBron.

LeBron likely heard the same chants when he was coming up, as he was arguably the most famous prep basketball player of all-time.

He talked about the attention his son is getting and how, as a father, he can help prepare Bronny for whatever is thrown his way.

“The one thing that I have is the luxury of knowing everything that he can expect,” LeBron James said. “There’s nothing that can hit him that I haven’t seen in my life. There is no obstacle that he will run into that I haven’t been a part of that I can’t coach him.

“At the end of the day, he’s still going to have to live his own life and find his own path. But I hope he turns off his comments on social media. That would be the smartest thing he can do.”

Bronny can turn his social media comments off, but he can’t hit the mute button on courtside fans. However, the eighth-grader did a pretty good job of shutting up an on-court trash-talker during a recent game.

LeBron will have to play at least six more seasons in the NBA in order for his son to be of the age to join him there. For a man who’s accomplished so much during his career, being able to play with or against his son in the NBA would go down as his biggest accomplishment.

Will LeBron James stick around long enough to play in the NBA with his 13-year-old son?

“You want to ask me what is the greatest achievement of my life?” LeBron asked two days before Game 1 of the Finals. “If I’m on the same court as my son in the NBA. That would be number one in my lifetime as an NBA player. I’ve thought about it because my son is about to be 14, and he might be able to get in there a little earlier.”

With Bronny entering eighth grade, LeBron would need the one-and-done rule abolished in order to play with his son in six years. As it stands, it will take Bronny seven years before he can join the NBA in which LeBron will be 40 years old.
