Michel added that until new information on Stevenson’s condition is available, no further comments from the promoter or Stevenson’s family would be forthcoming.

Stevenson, 41, was fighting Gvozdyk for the WBC Light Heavyweight championship, which Stevenson had held.

In the 11th round, Gvozdyk hit Stevenson with a barrage of punches that sent him to the corner and then to the floor.

The referee immediately called the fight, making Gvozdyk the new champion by TKO.

As Gvozdyk celebrated his win with his corner, unbeknownst to him, Stevenson was still on the floor, unable to stand up, crawling between the ropes as his team attended to him.

Stevenson, who had held the title for five and a half years, was able to seat himself on the stool in his corner as his team examined him. But later in his dressing room, he collapsed, reported World Boxing News.

He was taken to a hospital in Quebec City where he was in critical condition.

Stevenson was placed into a medically induced coma to help aid the intense swelling to his brain, the World Boxing News reported.

Stevenson has a record of 29-2-1. He had held the title since 2013 and had successfully defended it 10 times.
