Ex-Cowboys Player Explodes at Rape Trial - 'She Never Said No'

Share

Ex-Dallas Cowboys running back Joseph Randle wanted to be arraigned immediately on the 11 charges he’s currently facing, including rape, sodomy and kidnapping.

But that will have to wait until later this month after Randle showed “apparent confusion in court over what was involved” during a preliminary hearing on Tuesday, according to The Wichita Eagle.

Randle is accused of raping a woman for about three hours at her apartment last September. During Tuesday’s preliminary hearing at a Kansas courtroom, the woman testified that the former running back forced her to have sex without her consent after she invited him back to her home.

However, Randle allegedly refused to leave the home and began sexually assaulting her. She eventually escaped and managed to find a neighbor, who let her call 911.

Randle denied in court that he sexually assaulted the woman. He blurted out: “She didn’t tell me” and “She never said nothing. She never said no. So how am I supposed to know?” The Eagle reported.

“The judge repeatedly admonished Randle for talking out of turn,” The Eagle noted, while his attorneys “contended he isn’t competent to stand trial at this time.”

Sedgwick County District Court Judge Kevin O’Connor “disagreed but noted that Randle’s ability to understand the charges could be called into question in the future,” the newspaper said.

Due to a string of arrests, Randle has had several mental health evaluations and was declared competent by O’Connor last June.

He’s spent the majority of the last three years behind bars in his hometown of Wichita. He’s previously been accused of theft and possession of marijuana.

A fifth-round pick by the Cowboys in 2013, Randle played three seasons with the team and rushed for 822 yards and nine touchdowns.

He succeeded DeMarco Murray as the starter once Murray left in free agency following the 2014-15 season, but he ended up starting just six games.

He was waived mid-season and suspended not long thereafter for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy.

Randle last played in the NFL when he was 23 years old and hasn’t received any known free agent interest since then.

Weeks after the NFL suspended him, Randle was arrested at a Kansas casino for allegedly assaulting a law enforcement officer. He also been accused of hitting people at a housewarming party with a car and threatening to kill a jail deputy, according to The Associated Press.

While behind bars in 2017, Randle was accused of attacking another inmate. He claimed he was simply defending himself when another inmate punched him in the face.

Randle’s arraignment for the alleged rape has been postponed until Feb. 25.
