Ex-ESPNer makes heated claim about firing - 'I was white and I made too much'
Former ESPN reporter and current political pundit Britt McHenry has made little secret of her disdain for “The Worldwide Leader.”
McHenry has found a second career focusing on conservative politics after being part of ESPN’s 2017 layoffs.
Yet she still finds the time to launch digs at her former employer, oftentimes on national television.
Her latest knock against ESPN, however, is one she’d probably rather forget, as evidenced by the fact that she promptly deleted the tweet. Unfortunately for McHenry, once something is out on the internet, it’s virtually impossible to scrub it completely.

McHenry made the bold claim that she was a part of ESPN’s 2017 layoffs not because of cost-cutting or corporate restructuring, but rather because she was white and made too much money.
Now, there could very well be some truth in the second half of her claim. ESPN made it painfully obvious that the company was laying people off in 2017 to save money.
But McHenry’s first claim? It’s utterly baseless and does far more harm than good for her political causes.
One of the biggest criticisms that can be lobbied against ESPN is its insistence on injecting identity politics when it comes to covering sports. You can’t fight against that by resorting to unsubstantiated identity politics yourself.
For what it’s worth, ESPN employs plenty of white people, some of whom undoubtedly make more than McHenry ever did as a sideline reporter.
Perhaps her biggest foible is that her asinine comments actually paint ESPN in a somewhat sympathetic light, which is not a small task.
Worse yet, had McHenry had any proof or documentation that could corroborate her claim, she would’ve had an absolute bombshell of a story that could’ve aided her in her crusade against ESPN.
Instead, when pressed by Deadspin in a phone interview, she seemed completely unwilling to broach the topic.
“I think there were a number of factors into laying me off,” McHenry said, likely alluding to her conservative views. “I wish nothing but the best for the people there.”
If McHenry wants to fulfill her manifest destiny as a credible conservative pundit, she should really double-check herself before spouting off outlandish comments. Although, to be fair, she probably could’ve used that advice way sooner.
