Former college football star saves woman pinned in vehicle after crash

Share

At next month’s NFL draft, Derrius Guice is expected to be a first-round pick and one of the first running backs selected.

But on Friday, he was simply a good Samaritan who saw a woman in danger and went out of his way to help her.

The former LSU star was driving in Baton Rouge, Louisiana when he came upon a multi-car accident. On Twitter, Guice explained that a smaller car had been struck by a pickup truck.

The driver inside the smaller car was then trapped inside her vehicle, with the airbags pinning her down. Guice then popped the airbags and pulled the woman from the car.

After medical personnel arrived on the scene, Guice chronicled the entire encounter on Twitter and even recorded a video with the woman, who ended up being fine, and several first responders.

Guice received lots of love on Twitter, with many saying his act of kindness made his draft stock rise even higher.

His former LSU teammate, D.J. Chark, echoed the sentiments of many, joking that Guice is a superhero.

Do you think Guice will be a first-round pick?

It’s not the the first time that Guice has made headlines since his college football career ended.

During the NFL combine, he was allegedly asked two insensitive questions — one about his sexuality, and another about whether his mother was a prostitute.

‘’It was pretty crazy,” Guice said in an interview with SiriusXM NFL. “Some people are really trying to get in your head and test your reaction. … I go in one room, and a team will ask me do I like men, just to see my reaction. I go in another room, they’ll try to bring up one of my family members or something and tell me, ‘Hey, I heard your mom sells herself. How do you feel about that?’ “

The NFL Players Association condemned the questions posed to Guice, and NFL spokesperson Brian McCarthy told USA Today that the league was “looking into the matter.”

NFLPA executive director DeMaurice Smith, meanwhile, said he wanted whichever team asked Guice about his sexual orientation to be banned from future combines.

“Find out what team did it and ban them from the combine,” Smith said on “PFT Live.”

“The question is inappropriate. Questions along these lines are always inappropriate.”

Still, Guice called the combine “a great experience” and said it went exactly how people told him it would go.
