Former Promising NFL Player Sentenced to 90 Days in Jail
The fall from grace for Dorial Green-Beckham continued Friday as the former NFL wide receiver was sentenced to 90 days in jail, the Springfield News-Leader in Missouri reported.
This stemmed from his arrest by Springfield police in December for possession of marijuana.
That arrest meant that Green-Beckham violated his probation from a prior DWI case.

The News-Leader reported that police originally said Green-Beckham had one pound of marijuana on him and another seven pounds in his house when arrested in December.
But during testimony Friday, officers said he had just 35 grams of marijuana on him, which is just over one ounce. They did, however, say he was responsible for another one pound found in the house.
Green-Beckham was also arrested in December 2017, and that arrest is what led to him being on probation. Had he been able to successfully complete two years of probation, the DWI conviction would have been wiped from his record.
However, after receiving his probation sentence in September 2018, Green-Beckham lasted just three months before that December arrest.
Green-Beckham faced the same judge in both cases, and while Judge Jerry Harmison said “we are all pulling for you” to Green-Beckham in September, he was let down this time around.
“I am disappointed in you,” Harmison told Green-Beckham, adding that he wants to see him on a football field.
Green-Beckham’s lawyer tried to get his client substance abuse treatment and counseling instead of jail time, but Harmison handed down the stiffest possible penalty of incarceration.
Green-Beckham was the No. 1 ranked high school recruit in the country in the Class of 2012, according to Rivals.com, and the St. Louis native stayed close to home by signing with Missouri.
But that’s where his legal problems began. Green-Beckham was arrested on drug possession charges and suspended as a freshman. He bounced back to make second-team All-SEC as a sophomore before being kicked off the team at the end of the year for more legal troubles.
He then transferred to Oklahoma but didn’t play a single snap for the Sooners due to NCAA transfer rules.
Green-Beckham declared for the 2015 NFL draft and was taken by the Tennessee Titans in the second round.
He played just two years in the NFL, with his final season coming in 2016 with the Philadelphia Eagles.
Green-Beckham had just 68 receptions in his career, and his production never matched his potential as he also dealt with other off-the-field issues.
At his last hearing in October 2018, Green-Beckham’s lawyer said that his client was receiving interest from the CFL, but nothing ever materialized.
