Horrific Police Report: NFL Bust Admits to Having Sex with 12-Year-Old Girl

Share

Few things in sports are more ignominious than being labeled a “bust.”

Sometimes the players who fall woefully short of their perceived potential can shed that label and find a second lease on their careers.

But more often that not, Murphy’s Law applies to sports busts, and things typically only get worse. Much worse, in lots of cases.

The sad and disgusting tale of NFL bust Justin Crawford falls very much into the latter.

To be fair, Crawford, 23, isn’t your typical bust. He went undrafted despite being a highly-touted running back prospect from West Virginia, where he tallied 1,184 and 1,061 rushing yards in his two seasons (2016 and 2017) playing for the Mountaineers.

Crawford infamously skipped the team’s 2017 Zaxby’s Heart of Dallas Bowl game to prepare for the NFL draft. As mentioned prior, he still wasn’t drafted.

That doesn’t mean there wasn’t hype surrounding him. After all, talented running backs, almost more so than any other position, can be often be found in the later rounds of the NFL draft. Star running backs like Priest Holmes and Arian Foster both went undrafted.

Despite the productive college career and expectations regarding his talent, Crawford was ultimately signed by the Atlanta Falcons in May and played for the team during the preseason before being released Sept. 1.

Had his story simply ended there, he would be regarded as a blasé footnote in the annals of NFL history.

Unfortunately, that hasn’t been the case.

According to the Columbus, Georgia Ledger-Enquirer, citing a police report, Crawford was arrested Saturday on charges of having sex with a 12-year-old girl.

Police said Crawford is charged with aggravated child molestation, sodomy and enticing a child for indecent purposes.

The story behind how this was uncovered is as bizarre as it is despicable.

During Crawford’s preliminary hearing, police said Crawford’s wife, Chakeya Crawford, awoke at 5 a.m. Saturday, walked into her living room and she saw her husband had an erection as he stood over a 12-year-old girl.

For some reason, Crawford’s wife went back to sleep, albeit while “worried” about what she had seen in her living room.

Chakeya has actually disputed that police report.

“I did not see anyone having sex, or I would have called police right away,” she told the Ledger-Enquirer. Crawford’s wife claims that while her husband was exposed, she saw no erection. Justin Crawford then ran into the kitchen to cover himself up.

Chakeya claims that she originally gave her husband the benefit of the doubt, but when she took the 12-year-old to the child’s mother, the young girl explained what had happened. According to the 12-year-old, she was asleep in the Crawfords’ living room when Justin walked in and had her perform oral sex before having intercourse.

Justin Crawford initially disputed the claims when he was questioned by police. He eventually relented and admitted it happened, but claimed it was the 12-year-old’s idea.

Frankly, it’s irrelevant whose idea it was. The act itself is despicable and criminal, no matter which way its rationalized.

It’s one thing to be a bust when it comes to sports talents. Obviously, not everyone is blessed with that perfect combination of athleticism and work ethic that a professional athlete needs.

But it’s another thing entirely when it comes to being bust in life. There’s no other way to describe how badly Justin Crawford has failed at being a human being.

Crawford is being held without bail.
