LSU Cuts Player After 2nd Domestic Violence Arrest In 1 Month

Share

LSU wide receiver Drake Davis was arrested Sunday for domestic violence, his second domestic violence arrest in a month.

Consequently, Davis was kicked off the team, according to the New Orleans Times-Picayune.

Davis, a junior, had been serving a suspension from the team after he was arrested Aug. 17 for second-degree battery.

Davis allegedly struck the victim, who he was dating, four times in the past year and a half. He also allegedly choked her and broke her ribs, reported Deadspin.

He was released after posting $5,000 bail and suspended indefinitely by the team.

Police interviewed the woman Saturday and she told them that Davis pushed her during an Aug. 26 incident. She had a black eye, reported Deadspin, but the woman said she didn’t know how she got it.

Then a witness called LSU campus police to report that another battery had occurred early Saturday morning, reported ESPN.

Should college sports teams adopt a one-strike policy for domestic violence allegations?

The witness told police that Davis hit the victim, the same woman, in the face near the left eye. When police arrived to interview the victim about the alleged Aug. 26 incident, they noticed the black eye.

“According to the affidavit, LSU Police received photos of the victim’s eye injury from a witness who said they were sent to her via text message from the victim. The witness alleged to police that the victim said Davis had caused the injury after he ‘slapped her repeatedly in the face area around her left eye … due to another argument they had,'” reported ESPN’s Alex Scarborough.

Sunday morning, campus police arrested Davis on two counts of battery.

Davis, a junior, is not eligible to post bail after this second arrest. He will remain in jail until his day in court, Deadspin reported.
