MLB's Best Player Blasts HR After Young Fan Requests It

Share

Every year, seven-year-old Baltimore native Gavin Edelson looks forward to the L.A. Angels making their annual visit to Camden Yards.

That’s because Edelson is a huge Mike Trout fan, and it’s the only time of the year in which he gets to see his baseball idol play in person.

Edelson had the opportunity to meet Trout prior to Friday’s game between the Angels and Orioles in which he received a bat from the two-time MVP and also gave Trout a special request: hit a home run.

That would normally be a relatively easy task for Trout, who finished fourth in the AL in home runs last season.

But this year, the long ball has been tougher to come by as Trout had just three home runs over his last 24 games.

However, there was no way Trout was going to let his biggest fan down — and in the top of the third inning, Trout smacked a home run over the left-center field bleachers.

Do you think Mike Trout will be the American League's MVP?

The broadcast team interviewed Edelson and his father during the game, and the boy confirmed that he requested Trout to hit a home run.

The game was more than just Trout fulfilling a wish from his biggest fan, as it was also a day in which Trout broke out of a mini-slump.

He had only two hits over his previous 16 at-bats, but Trout had a home run and a double in Friday’s 8-3 win over the Orioles. It was the first time all season that he had a homer and a double in the same game.

Trout has been trying to find his swing all season and said that games like this one give him confidence going forward.

“I’m trying to fix it. It’s coming,” he said. “Obviously, a double tonight and the home run, just got to keep that same feeling in consecutive at-bats. Some pitches, I don’t feel it.”

If hitting a home run for one of his biggest fans wasn’t enough, Trout also made another kid’s day after a lengthy rain delay.

Just a couple of hundred fans remained after a nearly two-hour rain delay late in the game, and when Trout returned to the outfield, he gave a young fan a baseball for staying throughout the game.

There could be more Trout magic on Saturday as Dylan Bundy was scheduled to be on the mound for Baltimore. Trout has two home runs in six at-bats against him.
