New Orleans Saints Player Arrested Early Wednesday Morning

New Orleans Saints defensive back P.J. Williams was arrested early Wednesday morning for allegedly driving while intoxicated.

According to police, Williams, 25, was driving 80 miles per hour in a 50 mile per hour zone over Crescent City Bridge in New Orleans when he was pulled over, The New Orleans Times-Picayune reported.

After he was pulled over, Williams refused a breath test, New Orleans Police Department spokesman Aaron Looney told the news outlet.

He was booked just before 3 a.m. on charges of DWI, speeding, improper lane usage, careless driving and failure to use a turn signal.

The incident came three days after the Saints’ heartbreaking 26-23 overtime loss to the Los Angeles Rams in the NFC championship game.

This was not Williams’ first run-in with the law.

In November 2014 while attending Florida State, Williams was involved in an accident but fled the scene. He received traffic tickets but wasn’t arrested, The New York Times reported.

Then, in April 2015, he was arrested in Tallahassee for driving under the influence, the Tallahassee Democrat reported.

The report said he was driving a rental car on a suspended license at the time of the arrest.

At that point, Williams had declared for the 2015 NFL draft.

He had been projected to be a first-round pick, but the arrest likely made him slide down to the third round, where the Saints picked him.

Williams had his best year in 2018. He started seven games at cornerback for the Saints and had an interception, a sack, two forced fumbles and 53 tackles, including 44 solo tackles.

He scored on a 45-yard interception return in New Orleans’ 30-20 win over the Minnesota Vikings.

Williams is due to become an unrestricted free agent in March.

His agent could not be reached for comment, The Times-Picayune reported.

Saints GM Mickey Loomis declined to comment when asked about Williams at a media event Wednesday, The Advocate reported.
