NFL's most untrustworthy executive revealed by agents

Share

There are a lot of words that have been used to describe Bill Belichick: winner, demanding, emotionless.

Well, now we can add another, and it might be surprising.

Trustworthy.

Even while seemingly at odds with his two best players — Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski — “The Hoodie” has been voted as the second-most trustworthy executive in all of football.

USA Today surveyed NFL player agents on a variety of topics, and the results were certainly eye-opening.

Outgoing Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome was voted as the most trusted NFL executive, edging out Belichick and Seattle’s John Schneider.

Do you think Bruce Allen is the worst NFL executive?

On the other end of the spectrum, Redskins president Bruce Allen took home the dishonor of being the least trusted.

“You never know if he’s shooting straight with you,” one agent said of Allen.

Miami’s Mike Tannenbaum finished second, but the third least trustworthy was certainly an eyebrow-raiser.

Broncos Hall of Famer John Elway, who has made several big moves in recent years, apparently is not a favorite of the agents.

When asked which teams are best prepared in conducting negotiations, there weren’t any revelations: John Lynch and the 49ers finished first. (No word if Jimmy Garoppolo’s agent Don Yee took part in the poll.)

The Super Bowl champion Eagles were second, with the Patriots finishing third.

Given the under-the-radar moves both teams have made in recent years, it definitely makes sense.

As does the two least-prepared clubs.

The notorious penny-pinching Bengals apparently don’t do their homework.

Cleveland (prior to hiring new GM John Dorsey) finally found something at which it’s not the worst, only second from the bottom.

It is worth noting that the bottom six — adding the Redskins, Bears, Jets and Raiders — all missed the postseason last year.

The survey also addressed issues like the NFL Players’ Association and different practices among agents.

NFLPA chief DeMaurice Smith faired poorly in the poll: Only 10 percent rated his performance as “good.”

“He’s doing the worst job of any union chief, with no understanding of PR and how to state the players’ case to the fans and public,” one agent said.
