NFL's Tarik Cohen buys brand new equipment for school ravaged by tornado

Share

Tarik Cohen of the Chicago Bears isn’t just part of one of the best running back duos in the NFL; he’s also a great human being off the field.

According to a social media post, Cohen recently bought and personally delivered new gym equipment to an elementary school near his hometown.

In April, Hampton Elementary School in Greensboro, North Carolina, had to be shut down for the rest of the school year after a tornado ripped through the area and severely damaged the building.

Cohen heard about what happened, which is unsurprising, considering the fact that he grew up in the area and attended college at North Carolina A&T in Greensboro, per NBC Sports.

This week, Cohen showed up at the school with some new gym equipment.

“Tarik Cohen, running back for the Chicago Bears, bought a ton of PE equipment and delivered it to our school today!” read a Facebook post shared by user Dawn Potts.

“We are so appreciative! As most of you know, Hampton Elementary was severely damaged by a tornado and we lost all our PE equipment. Tarik was kind enough to not only buy new equipment but deliver it and speak to the children!”

Cohen received a lot of praise on Twitter for his act of kindness, but he responded by saying that he’s “just a guy.”

Cohen does indeed deserve props for what he did.

Is Tarik Cohen a good role model?

Not only did he purchase new equipment for the school, but he didn’t feel the need to tell everyone what he had done.

It was more important to him that the kids get the equipment they needed than that he be showered with praise, which is very admirable.

And the school was sorely in need of some help.

“The roof is gone, a large portion of it,” state Rep. Amos Quick III told WFMY in April. “All of the mobile classrooms are destroyed, just utterly destroyed. The front door — I stepped through the glass. We didn’t have to open the door. I stepped through the glass. There’s glass and debris and water everywhere.”

Cohen, meanwhile, who’s nicknamed “The Human Joystick,” is entering his second year in the NFL.

In his rookie season, he rushed for 370 yards and two touchdowns, while adding another 353 yards and one touchdown through the air.
